At Sanborn Homestead and Bakery, every loaf is handcrafted, every cup is poured with care, and every visit feels like stepping into a story that's been baking since 1892.
Our Story
Nestled along Russell Hill Road in the heart of Bucksport, Sanborn Homestead and Bakery began as a working farmhouse kitchen — where recipes were passed down, ovens were wood-fired, and hospitality wasn't a strategy, it was just how life was lived.
Today, that same spirit lives on. Our bakers arrive before dawn. Our coffee is sourced from roasters who treat every bean like a craft. And our dining room — warm, unpretentious, and always full — is where neighbors become regulars and regulars become family.
The Experience
Original wide-plank floors, exposed beam ceilings, and windows that look out onto the homestead gardens. Bring a book. Stay for hours.
Birthdays, book clubs, board meetings — the homestead can be reserved for groups of 12 to 40. We handle the food; you handle the toasts.
Learn the craft from our head baker. Weekend sessions cover sourdough fundamentals, laminated doughs, and seasonal preserving.

Words from Visitors
We drove in from Portland just for the sourdough — and stayed for three hours. The croissants alone are worth the trip. This is what a bakery should be.
Portland, ME
We hosted our anniversary dinner in the dining room. The staff made it feel like a family celebration. The food was extraordinary — every single course.

I took the sourdough class and now I'm obsessed. The head baker has this patience and wisdom that you can't learn from a book. Already signed up for the next one.
